Introduction to the SmartView 4K G3
Blackmagic Design has introduced the new SmartView 4K G3 Broadcast Monitor, a 15.6″ professional TFT LCD monitor designed to enhance the shift towards IP-based broadcast workflows.
The SmartView 4K G3 features both built-in optical and copper SMPTE‑2110 IP video connections, allowing direct integration with IP-based broadcast systems.
Versatile Connectivity and Display Capabilities
Supporting both 12G-SDI and 2110 IP up to 2160p60, the SmartView 4K G3 enables users to seamlessly switch between SDI and IP inputs with the press of a button.
The monitor automatically adapts to all SD, HD, or Ultra HD (DCI 4K60) standards, ensuring compatibility across various video formats.
Advanced On-Screen Features
The SmartView 4K G3 is equipped with a range of on-screen overlays, including focus peaking, four framing guides (two vertical and two horizontal), safe area markers, and more. It also includes built-in 3D LUTs, allowing users to apply creative looks, convert log film gamma, or manage custom HDR profiles. Users can upload 3D LUTs using the SmartView utility and export DaVinci Resolve color grades as custom 3D LUTs.
Integration with Blackmagic Ecosystem
Supporting the Blackmagic SDI Tally Protocol, the SmartView 4K G3 illuminates a colored border around the image (red for on-air or green for preview), a feature compatible with all ATEM live production switchers. This reduces the need for additional cabling by providing image and tally signals through a single BNC cable.
User-Friendly Controls and Design
The monitor features a range of button controls along the bottom, designed with a slight tilt for easy access while keeping the screen clear of fingerprints.
Front panel controls include input selection between two 12G-SDI video inputs and the 2110 IP video input, as well as brightness, H/V display, blue only, zoom, focus peaking, 3D LUT selection, and up to four on-screen markers.
NMOS Interface and Lightweight Construction
Complying with NMOS interface specifications, the SmartView 4K G3 allows all 2110 IP video devices to function together as a large virtual router. The Videohub Smart Control can route sources to destinations on 2110 IP networks, acting as an NMOS controller. The monitor supports IS-04 for discovery and registration of IP video devices and IS-05 for connection management between IP video devices.
Constructed from lightweight aluminum, the SmartView 4K G3 weighs only 7.94 lb (3.6 kg). The 6RU unit is just a few inches deep, ensuring efficient rack ventilation through natural convection.
Price and Availability
The Blackmagic SmartView 4K G3 is now available for preorder and is expected to ship in mid to late September, priced at $1265 USD.
