Overview

NANLITE has unveiled the FC PowerController, a comprehensive power and control solution for the FC-500C, FC-300B, and FC-500B series fixtures. This innovative device enhances the versatility of these light fixtures by enabling remote operation in the field using V-mount batteries.

Versatility in the Field

The introduction of the FC PowerController makes the FC series fixtures highly adaptable for on-the-go shooting. This combination is ideal for outdoor environments or locations without access to AC power, ensuring uninterrupted operation of the FC-300B, FC-500B, and FC-500C.

Key Features

Design and Build

  • Display and Controls: The FC PowerController features a two-inch screen, two buttons, and two knobs for easy control.
  • Dimensions: 130.6×135.5×204.5mm (5.14×5.33×8.05″)
  • Weight: 1.61kg (3.55lb)
  • Compatibility: Compatible with FC series light fixtures with a DC 48V 4-pin input socket.

Power Options

  • Battery Power: Capable of powering light fixtures from V-mount batteries.
  • AC Power: Can also power light fixtures from an AC outlet using the included power adapter.
  • Simultaneous Charging: Acts as a portable V-mount dual battery charger, capable of charging one or two 14.4-14.8V or 26V batteries simultaneously.

Connectivity and Control

  • Wired Control: Provides wired control for light fixtures at a distance of up to 3m (9.84ft) using the included connection cable.
  • Display and Adjustments: Features a two-inch display to show status, with knobs and buttons to adjust settings.

Performance and Usability

Battery and Output

Connecting the FC PowerController allows the FC-300B, FC-500B, and FC-500C to be powered by either one or two 14.4-14.8V or 26V batteries. The output varies depending on the number and voltage of the batteries. For example, the FC-500C requires two 26V high-performance V-lock batteries for full output, while a single 14.4V battery will limit output to 30%.

AC Power Flexibility

The FC PowerController can also power fixtures from an AC outlet by connecting the original power adapter. This feature enables seamless switching to battery power if AC power is disconnected, which is particularly useful for quickly moving fixtures around a studio or location.

Construction and Durability

The FC PowerController is constructed with a rugged aluminum alloy body, featuring three aluminum alloy heat sinks and a built-in fan. The fan operates quietly to ensure optimal heat dissipation, providing the best possible recording conditions.

Portability and Mounting

  • Portability: Weighing just 1.61kg (3.55lb), it can be easily carried or hung using the in-built rope.
  • Mounting Options: Equipped with a quick-release plate on the rear, allowing it to be mounted on a light stand or truss using an optional quick-release clamp.

Price and Availability

The NANLITE FC PowerController will be available for shipping this month at a price of $399 USD.
