Joining a growing trend in the photography world, Leica has unveiled its latest offering – the D-Lux 8, a beginner-friendly mirrorless hybrid camera. As the moniker suggests, this is the eighth rendition of the D-Lux series. According to Leica, it promises superior image quality, a distinctive Leica user experience, and a revamped interface inspired by the noted Q series.
Expanding Horizons: Key Features
The D-Lux 8 boasts remarkable features which include a 17MP Four Thirds CMOS Sensor and a 24-75mm Equivalent f/1.7-2.8 lens. The device encapsulates a distinct design inspired by the Q Series and facilitates connectivity via the Leica FOTOS App. Additionally, it’s the first D-Lux capable of capturing DNG RAW Format and comes inclusive of an on-camera flash.
Despite the apparent similarity to its predecessor, the now discontinued D-Lux 7, the D-Lux 8 rounds off its revamped design by being the first in its range to support DNG RAW files.

The D-Lux 8’s Four Thirds MOS sensor showcases a substantial 17MP, providing a sensitivity range extending up to ISO 25600. Coupled with a continuous shooting rate of 11 fps and the ability to record UHD 4K30p video, it makes for an ideal choice for varied multimedia shooting applications under different lighting conditions.
Supporting its advanced image processing capabilities stands its DC Vario-Summilux lens, offering an equivalent focal length range of 24-75mm and a f/1.7-2.8 aperture. This lens further incorporates an optical image stabilization feature to help minimize camera shake and deliver sharper handheld shots.
Fostering User Experience
In complementing the aforementioned sensor and lens attributes, the D-Lux 8 sports a travel-friendly aesthetic that accommodates a 2.76m-dot electronic viewfinder and a 3.0″ 1.24m-dot rear touchscreen LCD. Expanding on this, the built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi function in collaboration with the Leica FOTOS app for effortless wireless sharing and remote camera control from connected iOS or Android devices.
UHD 4K Video Capabilities
The D-Lux 8 encourages video enthusiasts as well with support for UHD 4K video recording at 30p or 24p frame rates in the MP4 format. In addition to MP4, Full HD 1080p60 video recording is also supported in the AVCHD format.
Body Design and Beyond
The D-Lux 8’s body design encompasses a bright electronic viewfinder plus a convenient rear 3.0″ touchscreen LCD for a seamless menu navigation and image playback experience. Furthermore, wireless connectivity features and more are encapsulated in a shell that supports in-camera charging of the BP-DC15 lithium-ion battery via a USB connection.
