Panasonic has recently sparked interest by sending out invites to an event, teasing with the catchphrase “Capture true colors.” Further details about the eagerly anticipated camera launch have been provided by renowned leaker, Andrea Pizzini.

The unveiling of the Panasonic Lumix S9 is slated for May 22 at 2 PM GMT. Although no leaked images of the full-frame camera are available yet, Pizzini suggests that the S9 will be marginally smaller than the Fujifilm X100VI (currently priced at $1,599.99 at Best Buy), and will not feature an EVF, likely in an effort to reduce cost.

The device is rumored to come with a LUT button, although its exact functionality — whether it applies a single LUT, cycles through various LUTs, or brings up an on-screen menu — remains ambiguous. Nevertheless, this feature will undoubtedly be appreciated by video-focused creators.

Omitting the EVF, while appealing to younger users and content creators, implies that the screen will likely have some form of articulation to enhance ergonomics for video.

Furthermore, while the Lumix S9 is expected to boast a full-frame sensor, it is speculated to be equipped with a 24 MP sensor. Therefore, its video resolution will likely be capped at around the 6.2K mark, similar to the $1,299.95 Fujifilm X-S20. As for the price, Pizzini indicates that it will be about $200–300 less than the Panasonic Lumix S5II, which debuted at $1,999, but is now available at Best Buy for $1,799.99. This places the Lumix S9 in the same price range as the Fujifilm X100VI, although this doesn’t account for the necessary L-Mount lens.
