Blackmagic Design breaks new ground with its announcement of Blackmagic Cloud Live Sync. This addition to Blackmagic Cloud storage enables continuous synchronizing of media into Davinci Resolve’s bin throughout recording sessions. Now, editorial and innovation teams can begin their work even as cameras are rolling, making for a far more streamlined workflow.

Transforming Cloud Storage: The Introduction of Cloud Live Sync

Introduced by Blackmagic Design in 2022, the Blackmagic Cloud reimagined project storage, offering users the convenience and advantage of cloud storage, as opposed to the traditional local drives, for their project files. In a monumental enhancement to this service, the Cloud Live Sync feature now gives users instant access to ongoing recordings, allowing editing and grading to commence even during recording. This pacesetter innovation bridges the gap between production and post-production, connecting teams in real time.

Recalibrating Post-Production: Real-Time Editing and Grading

The new feature ushers professionals into a dynamic era of post-production. As the media is being recorded, it is simultaneously accessible for work from any location. This real-time sharing is facilitated by the Blackmagic Cloud Live Sync’s capability to record a full-resolution HD proxy in H.264. This feature is shared by Cinema Camera 6K, PYXIS, URSA Cine, and URSA Broadcast G2, allowing media files to seamlessly sync to Blackmagic Cloud contemporarily with recording. Subsequently, they are synced down to the connected Davinci Resolve workstations in the Cloud project, enabling an easy connection process.

User-friendliness extends to the camera side of the process as well – users simply log into Blackmagic Cloud and select a project in Davinci Resolve before recording. From this point onwards, real-time syncing will be initiated for all linked Davinci Resolve workstations. Visual convenience is catered to with the new multi-sync feature, which provides a multi-view of all cameras in multi-camera recordings.

Novel Applications of Cloud Live Sync

This innovative feature offers versatile prospects. Imagine a worldwide production with simultaneous shooting and coloring occurring in various places, and real-time viewing of the result at the shooting location. Or a news event captured, edited, and aired without pause.

Blackmagic Design’s CEO, Grant Petty, aptly describes the live syncing of media from cameras into DaVinci Resolve bins as a ‘workflow revolution’. The simultaneous real-time streaming to multiple collaborating DaVinci Resolve systems via the same Blackmagic Cloud project is an achievement.

The All-New Blackmagic Cloud Live Sync

Key features include real-time syncing with Blackmagic Cloud as soon as recording initiates and the instant appearance of media in the DaVinci Resolve bin. Additionally, editing and color correction can begin even as the camera continues to record. This is an invaluable feature, especially for broadcast news, allowing rapid airing of media. Moreover, it enables remote color grading and real-time syncing on set.

Pricing and availability are designed to appeal to a wider audience. Blackmagic Cloud Live Sync will be available to the public in beta version around mid-June, and it’s free to download for Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K and Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 users. This promising Blackmagic Cloud update will not incur any extra cost with the current Blackmagic Cloud media sync plans.
