The new version introduces several advanced features, enhancing the user experience for both Android and iOS users.

Sony recently launched version 2.0.0 of their Monitor & Control app, an upgrade that includes support for BURANO and FX6, anamorphic de-squeeze, multi-camera monitoring, and much more. This article delves into the new features of this companion app, compatible with both Android and iOS.

Introduction to the Monitor & Control App

During IBC 2023, Sony introduced the Monitor & Control app, a free tool for iOS and Android devices. The app, which wirelessly connects to your camera, allows you to monitor your video signal, alter camera settings, and utilize multiple monitoring tools such as a waveform, histogram, and false color. Initially, the app was compatible only with the Sony FX30, FX3, and FX6, with Sony promising future support for more cameras. That time has arrived with the release of the Sony Monitor & Control app version 2.0.0.

What’s New in Version 2.0.0?

While the Sony a1, a9 III, a7S III, FX6, and BURANO were already included in the Monitor & Control app, the latest version brings significant improvements, particularly for FX6 and BURANO users. These include enhanced resolution and delay during monitoring for both the FX6 and BURANO, with support for false color, waveform, histogram, and zebra monitoring tools. Further, the app now overcomes limitations for monitoring during S&Q, 24P, Interval Rec, and 8K settings for BURANO and FX6. The Focus Map function is now also supported for the FX6.

Enhanced UI and Anamorphic De-Squeeze

Users of devices other than FX6 or BURANO will also benefit from the updated UI for remote operation and support for anamorphic de-squeeze on their smartphones or tablets.

Multi-Camera Monitoring

The update introduces support for Multi-Camera Monitoring, which enables users to view up to four camera feeds simultaneously.
