In a major development for the cinema industry, Profoto, a Swedish company known for its notable presence in the photography industry, has launched its first cinematic light – the Profoto L1600D Cinema LED light. The L1600D is a robust 1600W compact daylight fixture equipped with a unique liquid-cooling system, eliminating the need for a ballast or floor unit. This makes way for excellent portability.
Recently, this ground-breaking fixture took the center stage at Cine Gear 2024, where Patrik Bluhme, the Profoto representative, generously shared insights about the innovation.
The Dawn of a High-End Innovation in the Video Market
By launching the 1600D, a 1600W LED light, Profoto has boldly positioned itself in the high-value segment of the market. Acknowledging the increasing demand for video content and a growing catalog of LED lights tailored for video content, Profoto has opted for the ‘maximum power, maximum impact’ approach.
The Profoto L1600D Cinema LED light, weighing in at 11,7kg/25,8lb, is free from any ballast or floor unit. It features a 100-240 VAC power supply, which enhances its portability and significantly reduces the setup time. Profoto claims that with a 5700K color temperature and a CRI of 97, the L1600D houses two fans along with a HydroCTech liquid-cooling system, designed to reduce noise on the set.
Dual Mounting Options and App Integration
The fixture presents users with dual mounting options, that come with a Bowens mount plus an adapter for all Profoto’s light shapers. It exhibits wireless Profoto Air Radio connectivity for remote operations up to 328′ away. Furthermore, the L1600D seamlessly integrates with the Profoto Control, Lumenair, and Blackout apps, enhancing operation control. The fixture also integrates DMX 5-pin XLR connectors and LumenRadio TimoTwo CRMX for further enhanced operational control.
Responding to early feedback, Profoto has introduced a patent-pending swivel yolk that enables tilting of the light in any direction.
Price Tag and Availability
The Profoto L1600D Cinema LED light is expected to launch in late October or early November at an estimated price of $7,990. For more detailed information, please check out Profoto’s official website.
