The world of filmmaking and professional photography is witnessing a delightful innovation as SmallRig unveils its latest range of camera cages for the Nikon Z 6III. With three distinct models available, including a standard model, a high-end “Night Eagle” version, and an additional version for use with the MB-N14 grip, there’s no shortage of options. Manufactured from dependable aluminum, these camera cages ensure secure camera placement and ample mounting points.
The new SmallRig cages have arrived just in time to accommodate users of the impressive Nikon Z 6III, known for its commendable features like 6K60P N-RAW internal recording without any full-frame-sensor crop, ProRes RAW HQ, and ProRes 422 HQ internal recording up to 6K30P, and 4K120P recording abilities.
The Standard Nikon Z 6III SmallRig Cage
The leading “standard” model of SmallRig’s Nikon Z 6III cages consists of a wrap-around design and boasts a light weight of 6oz/170g. Mounting the camera is a breeze with three secure points: one 1/4″-20 point at the bottom and two neck strap eyelet screws.
The cage features a top-end layout with one 3/8″-16 hole integrated with ARRI locating pins, six additional 1/4″-20 mounting points, and an in-built cold shoe. The base of the cage is also generously equipped with a fixed Arca-Swiss plate, a 3/8″-16 and four 1/4″-20 threaded apertures, a QD socket, and a slot specially designed to house the provided wrench.
The Nikon Z 6III Grip Cage by SmallRig
For those who prefer using their Nikon Z 6III with an optional MB-N14 vertical grip, SmallRig has an appropriate solution – a bigger, robust cage identical to the standard model in terms of the top, bottom, and right mounting points.
The left side of this cage introduces an additional built-in Arca-Swiss quick-release plate accompanied by three 1/4″-20 mounting points. Furthermore, two 1/4″-20 threaded holes have been provisioned at the front of the cage.
The “Night Eagle” SmallRig Cage for the Nikon Z 6III
Last but not least, SmallRig’s premium “Night Eagle” cage is now available for the Nikon Z 6III. This model sets itself apart with striking gold and red highlights, a vintage leather grip on the right, and a gunmetal brown finish.
The “Night Eagle” cage features a NATO rail on the left-hand side with five 1/4″-20 threaded holes, a repositionable cold shoe mount, and an ARRI locating pins integrated 3/8″-16 plus five 1/4″-20 mounting points at the top. The right side is adorned with three 1/4″-20 threaded holes and a strap slot.
